But what can I do about the Climate Crisis?

Although the science of human damage to the environment is crystal clear, the steps to reduce our impact can be murky at best.

To celebrate the Global Climate Strike, I’ve done extensive research on the largest causes of emissions and where we as individuals can have the biggest impact for the least effort.

Here’s why it matters: You’ve probably heard that the climate will warm 2*C, which doesn’t sound bad. But that’s only if we take immediate, effective action. If we don’t, the planet will warm 4*C by 2050, rendering many parts of the planet inhabitable and forcing hundreds of millions of people to become climate refugees.

Removing fossil fuels from your life is a game changer — wind and solar power produce 60x less carbon than coal. If every American makes these one-time changes, we’ll slash US emissions 44%.

To do this, you’ll want to switch (where possible):

  1. Your electricity to renewable sources (here’s a list of providers)
  2. Your vehicle from gas to electric
  3. Your home appliances from gas to electric (replacing gas furnaces and water heaters with more efficient heat pumps, and gas stoves with faster, safer induction stoves)
